I’m only caring for one patient at a time. So I have to have a very holistic view of that patient’s health status, and also what’s happening in the operating room at any given time.
— Dr. Yasser, anesthesiology
If we list everything that’s ever happened to somebody over 10 years, in the middle of it may be metastatic cancer, coronary heart disease, but it’s mixed in there with colds, and ear infections, and sprained toes.

Typography draws attention to the patient name, helping to avoid mix-ups of patient information. Though subtle, this indicator of sex and age provides quick glanceable demographic information about the patient and increases safety by allowing the user to verify that they’re looking at the correct patient’s information.

PHYSICIANS PREFER GLANCE-ABLE PATIENT INFORMATION Physicians need quick background information about patients in order to get a general sense of patient health and prefer to see this information in a glance-able, holistic view.   The timeline now allows this. Using the scroll-thumb along the left side, the practitioner can quickly scroll through hundreds of records. The details that display on hover indicate the department of origin, number and type of records on each date. Clicking on a visit scrolls the history view to the corresponding entry.

An indication for the applied filter is then displayed on the right side, the history view updates immediately, and a status bar at the top flashes to show the number of results being returned. A search box provides auto-completion for quick access to filters. Another shortcut to add departmental filters is to click on the Department labels in history view.
